Red Line-equipped drivers James Clay, Randy Mueller and Ryan Eversley brought home victories at the Pirelli World Challenge Rose Cup at Portland International Raceway in Oregon July 14th and 15th. Clay and Mueller took the win on Saturday in the GTS SprintX Am category, while Ryan Eversley extended his TCR championship lead with a win on Sunday.
Eversley qualified in second position for the Sunday TCR race and dove to the inside on the first turn to gain the lead. Over the next 31 laps Eversley held off pole sitter Michael Lewis on the 1.97-mile Portland International circuit, eventually taking the checkered flag by a narrow .612 second margin.
“The RealTime Racing guys did a great job setting up the car for this track,” said Eversley. “The Honda Civic Type-R is a strong, solid car and we had to fight off Michael (Lewis) for the win. He tried to make a move a couple of times, but the Type-R was outstanding. I’m pleased with the performance this weekend, leading most of Saturday’s race and winning Sunday. Now, we’ll move to Utah for another strong weekend.”
James Clay and Randy Mueller also had a successful race weekend with a win on Saturday and a second-place finish on Sunday in the hotly contested GTS SprintX Am category. The duo put on a master class in passing as they defeated current GTS Am points leader Drew Staveley. On Sunday Clay and Mueller battled through the 32-car field to the second step on the podium, concluding a great weekend of racing.
“The last time I was at Portland was in Touring Cars with World Challenge so it’s great to be back and win as well,” said Clay. “It was a good race for us as Randy drove an awesome first stint. We were a little frustrated earlier before the race, but this was the best car we have had this weekend. We knew we had the pace and we just needed to drive the car up through the field. The Am class was very tough today with many clusters of cars in several areas. It was a real dogfight at times and everyone kept it clean.”
The next GTS SprintX events (Round 9 and 10) will take place on August 10th-12th at the Utah Motorsports Park for the PWC Grand Prix of Utah.
Rounds 9 and 10 for the TCR/TCA classes will be held on August 11th-13th at the same location, Utah Motorsports Park, where Ryan Eversly will defend his first-place finish.
