Urist started drag racing in 1998 when he convinced five college friends to head down to Florida for the weekend. They had no idea he was secretly going so that he could drag race. No one expected him to make it past the first eliminations, but he ended up making it to the last round. This fateful day launched one of the most successful drag racing careers.In 2006 Nitto Tire teamed up with John Urist, the same year that the New Mexico racer switched to Red Line Oil and never looked back.
