Saukville, Wisconsin (February 25, 2011) — After a highly successful 2010 season that saw RealTime Racing score the inaugural GTS Manufacturers’ Championship and record-breaking ninth title for Acura, the team is preparing for a tough title defense in 2011. Drivers Peter Cunningham, of Milwaukee, Wis., and Nick Esayian, of San Diego, Calif., will return to pilot the No. 1 and No. 34 RealTime Acura TSXs, with Cunningham looking to extend his record of six Drivers’ Championships and Esayian ready to challenge his teammate.
RealTime Racing will return to the World Challenge GTS class in 2011. Though it is only the second year for the GTS category, the competition has grown exponentially. The defending Champion Acura TSXs, which scored a combined 10 pole positions and 19 podium finishes in 2010, will be up against an eclectic grid of challengers, including the Porsche Cayman, Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang BOSS 302S and Mitsubishi Evolution. RealTime faces not only a diverse group of competition, but a varied race calendar as well. The combination of temporary street circuits and long, fast road courses will put all marques to the test.
With drivers Cunningham and Esayian back behind the wheel, RealTime is well-prepared to take on this fresh crop of opponents. Team leader Cunningham will be hard pressed to top his 2010 season, which included eight wins and 10 pole positions. The impressive figures further strengthened Cunningham’s lead in the World Challenge record book for race wins (40) and poles (42).
"We had a tremendous season last year, but it seems as though it only forced our GTS competition to get stronger," Cunningham said. "Defending the Manufacturers' and Drivers' championships will be a tall order, especially with the series switching to a racing slick tire for the first time, the Pirelli P Zero. Luckily, we have a great car in the TSX, my talented teammate Nick is back with us again and we have the hardest working team in the business. We won’t settle for anything less than a repeat."
Esayian returns to RealTime after a career-best season in World Challenge that included nine podium finishes, including his first win.
"I'm looking forward to another strong season with RealTime," Esayian said. "My World Challenge career started with this team, so it was a thrill to score my first win with them and I'm ready to add to that tally this season. The GTS competition will definitely be intense, but I couldn't be chasing the title with a better team."
RealTime's defense of the GTS Manufacturers' and Drivers' Championships begins in one month's time with a doubleheader on the streets of St. Petersburg for the Acura Sports Car Challenge, March 25 – 27.
