The racing action was heating up in Wisconsin as the IMSA Continental Tire Sportscar Challenge series arrived at Road America. The hotly contested Street Tuner class has seen an intense battle between BMW and MINI for the championship lead. The Road America 120 marked the fifth time that the lead has been swapped between the two manufacturers. BimmerWorld’s Red Line-equipped BMW 328i claimed victory with Nick Galante and Devin Jones behind the wheel.
Jones and Galante were racing wheel to wheel with the No. 73 MINI JCW of Mat Pombo for the final hour of the race. However, when the checkered flag dropped, the Bimmerworld team took an 11 point lead in the ST class championship.
“I had to push pretty hard to keep pace with Mat there,” said Jones. “He was a little bit faster in some crucial parts of the track, but I kind of knew where I was stronger and I was able set him up. Once his front tires started to wear off a little bit, I could tell. I was able to set up a pass and get it done.”
The IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge is entering the final stages of the 2018 season on August 17th through 19th at Virginia International Raceway.
