Alexis DeJoria Grabs Her Second NHRA Win of the Season in Vegas

Red Line cars make the final round in Top Fuel and Funny Car, with DeJoria taking the win and Kalitta maintaining the points lead.

Red Line teams had another great round of NHRA drag racing this weekend in Las Vegas for the SUMMITRACING.COM NHRA Nationals. Alexis DeJoria, driver of the 10,000-horsepower Red Line-equipped Kalitta Motorsports Patrón XO Cafe Toyota Camry, defeated Matt Hagan, Tony Pedregon, Cruz Pedregon, and Robert Hight on her way to claim her second Funny Car victory of the season. DeJoria and the Patrón XO Café team posted the quickest run in eliminations, leading up to a dominant final round performance against Hight - 4.026 seconds, 309.98 mph to 4.083 seconds, 315.42 mph.

“It was definitely a great day at the office to get the win for the Patrón team here in Vegas where they are headquartered - It was huge,” DeJoria said. “We have been in a few semifinals but never made it past that point here at this track. Today we focused on taking it one round at a time, and with each round win, I was just hoping and hoping. And then when we just kept going rounds, I kept my head down and tried to stay focused. Tommy (DeLago, crew chief) and my crew gave me a great car today, and it felt amazing for our team to pick up our second win of our career.”

Top Fuel, the field is currently chasing red-hot series points leader - and DeJoria teammate - Doug Kalitta and his Red Line-equipped Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster after he won the Gatornationals, posted a runner-up finish at the Winternationals and qualified No. 1 at the season’s first two events. Kalitta made it back to the finals in Vegas against Tony Schumacher, but finished just behind Tony in the final with a run of 3.814 at 321.12 mph. Doug still maintains the series points lead, ahead of Antron Brown by 73 points.

The next round of the Mello Yello Drag Racing series takes place at the 4 Wide Nationals at ZMax Raceway in Charlotte, NC on April 11-13.
