Kalitta Motorsports' Winning Momentum Continues with Second Funny Car Victory
Red Line-equipped Funny Car driver J.R. Todd claimed his first back-to-back career victory in Texas at the 31st annual NHRA SpringNationals. The victory at the SpringNationals marks the 13th of Todd's career and his second win of the season. Todd maintains a 4-0 record in final rounds since joining the Funny Car class in 2017.
"It's nice to have this much momentum early in the season," Todd stated. "We struggled really bad last season and didn't really turn around till probably the Western Swing. It's nice as Kalitta Motorsports to come out swinging at these races this year" said Todd. "I knew coming here that the track was going to be a factory and I hoped that maybe would play into our hands."
In the run up to the final round, Todd claimed victory over Tommy Johnson Jr., Jeff Diehl and Tim Wilkerson. Todd's Red Line 70WT race oil-equipped Kalitta Motorsports Toyota Camry Funny Car ran a scorching pass of 3.955-seconds at 313.29 mph to defeat defending world champion Robert Hight by .038 seconds to earn the Wally.
