Four Red Line-equipped NHRA racers brought home the coveted "Wally" at the 2014 Gatornationals on Sunday in Gainesville, Florida. In the premier Top Fuel class, Doug Kalitta took home yet another win in his Mac Tools dragster beating out the Matco Tools-sponsored Antron Brown with a lightning quick 3.830 @ 323.74 mph. This is Kalitta's first win of the season after qualifying first in both Pomona and Phoenix. The Kalitta team celebrated with its traditional mosh pit-style party on the startng line after the victory, its second in a row after teammate Alexis DeJoria's Funny Car win last round in Phoenix.
"We've been trying to get a win all year," Kalitta said. "We've been right on the cusp. I definitely would not want to be at the bottom of that pack... It's good that we can all get in there and celebrate. I was happy that all my guys got to the end of the track and nobody was hurt!"
On two wheels, Pro Stock Motorcycle riders Steve Johnson and Scotty Pollecheck squared off against each other for an all Red Line final round. Pollacheck cut a great light, but had a shift problem at the top of second gear and hit the rev limiter hard. Johnson streaked by and pulled away for his sixth national event win and second win in Gainesville (the first was in 2005). This is also the first time the two had raced each other in the final round.
The Pro Modified category saw yet another Red Line Oil faceoff in the final, this time between two nitrous cars. The Al-Anabi Racing Camaro driven by Mike Castellana lined up against defending World Champion Rickie Smith. Castellana left the tree with a near perfect .004 reaction time, just enough to take the win away from Smith.
Brad Zaskowski put the icing on the cake by taking the fourth Red Line win in Florida in the Super Stock class. Zaskowski's 3rd Gen Camaro was slightly slower on the tree against Joe Tysinger's perfect reaction time, but Zaskowski's car had more traction and was able to take the win with a faster ET of 10.135. Brad's renowned manual trans car shifts with Red Line MTL gear oil.
The Red Line Oil family is thrilled with the victories in Gainesville and congratulates all the racers.
