The Americans line up against Team Great Britain, SWC holders Denmark and Sweden on July 15 after triumphing on 38 points ahead of host nation Hungary, who bagged 32.
Peterborough racer Fisher was the hero on 14 points, while Wolverhampton favourite Wells tallied 12 as the USA produced the goods in the absence of SGP star Greg Hancock. Former Coventry rider Billy Janniro scored six along with Gino Manzares.
Edinburgh rider Joszef Tabaka and Norbert Magosi were Hungary’s top scorers on nine. Italy just missed out on second spot after scoring 31 points. Their most experienced man Guglielmo Franchetti led the scorechart on 10. France were fourth on 20 with Sebastian Tressarieu picking up eight, while his brother Mathieu collected seven.
